RE: 2012-2013 Call for Research Project Proposals
The California Raisin Marketing Board (CRMB) is now accepting research proposals for FY 2012-2013. Project proposals are due January 31, 2012.
Please note our fiscal year will begin August 1, 2012 and end July 31, 2013.
The CRMB will once again be working cooperatively with the following commodity groups and funding agencies: the California Table Grape Commission (CTGC), the American Vineyard Foundation (AVF), the California Rootstock Commission (CRC), CDFA Pierce’s Disease and Glassy-winged Sharpshooter Board, California Grape Rootstock Research Foundation, Oregon Wine Board and Washington State Grape & Wine Research. Representatives from all of the named groups have been working together to streamline the research proposal submittal and review process. Please note all groups are using a uniform proposal format.
At present, high priority areas for raisin production research include the following:
Cultivars and Rootstocks
• Viticultural characteristics in high production systems (i.e. evaluation of how new breeding program products perform under new production systems)
• Evaluation of new cultivars
• Evaluation of new rootstocks
Cultural
• Irrigation management
• Spur position or cordon maintenance in high production systems (i.e. DOV).
• Graftability and performance of new cultivars on established systems (i.e. Selma Pete on Thompson Seedless)
• Methods that improve mechanical harvesting of grapes for raisin production
Pest and Disease Management
• Vine Mealybug
• Nematodes
• Phylloxera
• Lepidopterous insect management
• Powdery mildew management
• Trunk diseases (Eutypa, Bot canker, Esca, Phomopsis, etc.)
*The California Raisin Marketing Board requests that proposals using GMO based materials are not submitted.
Please note:
With the creation of the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s (CDFA) Pierce’s Disease/Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter (PD/GWSS) Board, the CRMB will not be accepting or reviewing PD/GWSS research proposals. To learn more about CDFA’s PD/GWSS Board and potential funding opportunities, please visit their website at:
Please adhere to the enclosed guidelines when submitting your proposal(s), annual progress report(s) and final report(s). For projects funded during FY 2011-2012, the CRMB will require an annual report of progress detailing the experiments undertaken and the major findings or accomplishments of the work be attached to all continuing project proposals. The due date for these reports and proposals will be January 31, 2012.
An annual report must be attached to all continuing project proposals at the time of their submission. Continuing project proposals will not be accepted without an annual report. Please refer to the Annual Report Template enclosed. At the time of submission please indicate whether the report is a “Progress Report” or a “Final Report” as this can affect final payment.
Our review committees will rely heavily on the information presented in the annual report to evaluate the extent of progress on the stated project objectives and determine funding recommendations. A number of committees made up of industry representatives and members of the scientific community have been asked to review and evaluate the proposals.
Please submit your proposals and reports (for continuing projects) online at
http://uvegrants.ucdavis.edu.

ANNUAL / FINAL REPORT TEMPLATE
I. Project Title:
II. Principal Investigator(s):
Cooperator(s):
III. Summary: (In 500 words or less, provide a concise summary in layman’s terms as to the specific accomplishments for the past year. This summary is an essential part of any research project and will be used by the California Raisin Marketing Board (CRMB) staff and board members to communicate research findings to the general membership, to the press, and to others.)
IV. Objective(s) and Experiments Conducted to Meet Stated Objective(s):
V. Summary of Major Research Accomplishments and Results (by Objective) including Conclusions:
VI. Outside Presentations of Research:
(List of journals, publications, reports, speeches and other presentations of information developed by this research.)
VII. Research Success Statements:
(In a few sentences, detail the benefits of this research program to the industry. This is different from the 500-word summary. The summary covers the results from the past year; the Research Success Statements need to quantify what the research means to the industry, e.g., “This research has provided raisin growers with the essential tools to control…”)
VIII. Funds Status:
